Introduction

Hey everyone, my name is Stephanie Krawczyk. I'm from Tulsa, Oklahoma and I am beginning my senior and final year here at the University of Oklahoma studying Chemical Engineering. Although there are a lot of cool things about m major, I think the coolest thing about my major is that even though I have learned so much in my time here, there is so much out there to discover and continue learning!

I love my family and I love that Tulsa isn't too far of a drive from them. And they can make the trip up to see me too. I have a younger brother, Adam, who just moved into his freshman year at the University of Arkansas, and I am so excited to see where his life takes him in the next couple of years. Also I have one dog who is the coolest dog in the whole world (even though all dogs are amazing). Her name is Kacy and she's 10 years old. I always make my parents send me pictures of her. Here is a picture I took of her:

One of my other favorite things is food. I can't think of a single food that I dislike. My top three categories of food are Asian, Mexican, and Italian. I always love trying new kinds of foods though and new restaurants. Last semester I discovered this place in OKC called Goro Ramen, and it is amazing. It's really cool that Norman is so close to OKC and allows for exploring like that. One thing I am really trying to improve on in the next year is cooking. I love watching those Facebook videos that show you how to make recipes. The best thing I've ever cooked always involve pasta. Maybe this is because its one of the easier things to cook out there.

  1. I have never met someone with my same non-discriminatory love of food! I have never met a food I didn't like. The sad thing is I can't cook to save my life. Also, in regards to learning so much, but having more to learn, I feel you! Being a Letters major, there's always more history, more details, another important date to learn, but that is what makes it so exciting!

  2. Hi Stephanie! I know I read an Introduction from another chemical engineering major today... but now I cannot remember who it was... let me see: yes, here we go - Sarah's Introduction. Maybe you two know each other from engineering classes! Your Kacy is such a cutie (maybe she can make an appearance in one of your stories this semester!)... and I have to ask about your last name: do you pronounce it the Polish way, Krafchik...? Or does your family pronounce it more the way it is spelled...? If you are interested in exploring Polish fairy tales, that would be a possible topic for class too! Here are the Slavic books I've found online, including this lovely Polish book: Polish Fairy Tales by A. J. Glinski :-)

    1. This comment made my day! I will definitely have to have Kacy make an appearance in one of my stories. You are correct that it is pronounced the polish way in how you spelled it. I am impressed because few people get that correct on the first try. I will definitely have to get into some Slavic books as well, thanks for the suggestions!

  3. Hi Stephanie! I love food! I think my top three categories of food are Thai, Italian, and Indian! Goro Ramen is one of my favorites, as well. I love the vibe in there, and it got me started with my ramen obsession. Haha. Chemical Engineering sounds scary, but so interesting! I’m sure you are super excited to graduate, and start your career. Good luck!

  4. Hey there, Stephanie. Just have to ask, what breed is Kacy exactly? I've been thinking about getting a dog soon, and am looking for a well mannered and easy going breed. Anyway, you said you're from Tulsa (I'm from Bartlesville, just North of you), are you actually from the main city area or a suburb like BA? Just curious because we seem to be the same age and might know some of the same people.

Also, a good recipe to look up if you're into some spicy stuff. Jalapeno poppers. Delicious, especially when wrapped in bacon. Very easy to prepare as well. Just be sure to wash off your hands after chopping up the jalapenos. I learned that lesson the hard way.

  5. Hi Stephanie! It is very true that you can only learn so much here at the university and that after you graduate there still so much more to learn out in the real world. Food is something that I LOVE too! It's like I have two separate stomachs: one for the main meal and one for desserts. That's nice that you're trying to improve your cooking skills. It's always a good thing to try and harness your craft. I used to cook a lot with my girlfriend, but ever since she moved to Weatherford I stopped cooking and have been eating out more... If you like Goro Ramen there's also another ramen shop in the area called Tamashii's that, in my opinion, is a lot better tasting. There's also a ramen shop in Norman if you're looking for some place closer called, Tatsumaki!

  6. Hey Stephanie!
I think I always wince a little when I hear or read about somebody that is studying engineering. With the people that I have talked to that study engineering at OU, I know that it certainly isn't easy! How did you originally get interested in studying chemical engineering?
And I'm totally on-board with the learning to cook idea. This year is the first year that I've lived in my own house during college, and this also means that it's the first time I've needed to do my own grocery shopping and cooking. Though it's been limited so far, I would love to learn more about cooking! It is such a valuable skill to have and allows a lot more options.

  7. Hey Stephanie!

I too am from Tulsa so I enjoy the fact of being somewhat far but close at the same time. It makes it nice to be able to see your parents practically whenever you want. I love the picture of your dog Kacy. What fine looking pup! I too love eating food but have no idea how to cook. I'm slowly learning this year as I have moved into my own place. My favorite places to eat in Tulsa are Osaka, Mondo's, and Coney Islander. You should check those places out if you haven't already! Anyways good luck with your Chemical Engineering and upcoming Semester.

  8. Hi Stephanie! You're almost done with college! Congrats!! And especially on your Chemical Engineering major; that's impressive! Goro Ramen is good, but I like Tatsumaki Ramen better. It's a place in Norman that serves ramen too! It's really good and also close to campus! I watch those videos on Facebook about cooking, but I don't make them. LOL, they just make me hungry. I'm not a cook, hahah. Good for you! Anyways, good luck with your senior year!

  9. Hello Stephanie! It is great to meet another fellow senior. I love foods just like you, and yes, Asian foods. For some unknown reasons, I always love to watch those recipe videos at night (when I am most hungry). Goro Ramen is great and I use to go there almost every month during my freshman year when I have more free times. But hey, good luck on finishing the rest of the school year. Chemical Engineering sounds intimidating, but I am glad you are learning so many cool things from it. Also, Kacy is very cute. Good luck with the semester Stephanie!

  10. Hi Stephanie! How do you like being a chemical engineering major? What are you looking to do after graduation? Kacy looks like a very happy dog. Where is this ramen place? I've always wanted to go to like a ramen bar so I would love to go and try that place.

  11. Hi Stephanie! I applaud you for staying so positive! Its great to hear about someone who truly enjoys learning in their chosen career path! I know that there have been many times where I hated what I was learning in college. Also you dog looks really nice! And you have a really cool last name! I also have a profound love for Mexican and Asian foods so I can relate. I hope everything goes well with your semester!

  12. Hi Stephanie!! It was great reading your intro — I love how passionate you are about your major and applaud you for working hard at such a really difficult subject. Also, I LOVE Asian, Mexican and Italian food as well, and I've always wanted to try Goro Ramen! (the restaurant next to it, The Mule, is also delicious). And your dog is beautiful — I appreciate your love for all dogs. I hope you have a wonderful semester and final year here!

  13. Hi Stephanie! Your dog is so cute! What kind of dog is she? I love that you are so passionate about your major. Most of the chemical engineers I know just complain about it and then say "but it'll be worth when I make a ton of money in the future." Your reasons for loving Chem E are the same reasons I love psychology because we are always learning new things. If you want to go into oil after you graduate then you'll probably be moving to Houston which means you're in luck because they are a true foodie city and they have the best Tex-Mex you'll ever have. Good luck with your senior year and can't wait to get to know you better throughout the semester!

  14. Hey Stephanie! The first thing I realized was how adorable your dog is. The second is how much I like your choice of layout for your blog. I like the purple. I cannot imagine majoring in Chemical Engineering. Props to you! All dogs are amazing. I like that you agree. I am not very good at cooking, but I can bake pretty well. I would like to increase my cooking skills also, but extra time is not something that I have right now. Thank you for sharing!

  15. Hi Sarah!
I really like how you have structured your blog! I have not seen a lot of people with this type of layout so it was really cool to explore the different aspects of your blog. Also I thought it was really cool how you incorporated some personal pictures such as the one of your dog into your introduction. Kacy is too cute! I hope you are having a great semester so far!

  16. Hi Stephanie!
I have to agree with you on the food thing. I will try just about anything at least once, and I've never come across a type of food that I don't like. When I travel, the number one thing that I do is figure out what restaurants that I want to hit in a new place. I have tried some amazing things! Chemical engineering is such an awesome, and I'm sure challenging, major. There are so many things that you can do with it! While I'm usually more of a cat person, I have to say that your dog is just precious. He's got the sweetest little face! Good luck on your final year!

  17. Hi Stephanie! I’m a Chemistry major so I always think it’s kind of cool to see someone taking this class that has a similar (yet not so similar) major as I do. I am from Kingfisher which is about 2 hours west of Tulsa, and about an hour and a half from Norman so I drive to see my family every weekend. Hope your semester is great!

  18. Hi Stephanie! I admire the fact that your major is chemical engineering because I don’t think I could have handled those classes. I am like the location of OU and the time it takes to drive home since I am from Bartlesville which is pretty close to Tulsa. I am also kind of jealous that you like all kinds of food since I can be picky sometimes.

  19. Hi Stephanie! You had me at food! I love trying all different types of food, and it's awesome that you can narrow down your top three (something I still can't do!). You mentioned Goro Ramen, and I have yet to be there! However, I have tried Tatsumaki here in Norman - if you haven't already been there, you must go. You mentioned Asian food - have you tried Indian food before? If not, I definitely have some great suggestions for that too. Well, I wish you the best of luck during the rest of the semester. Nice to meet you!

  20. Hi Stephanie! Congrats on starting your senior year. I to am starting my senior year and I am quite nervous about what my future holds. I love that you are a "foodie." I am from Dallas, so I like that Norman is close to the OKC so that I can explore new restaurants, but at the same time being from Dallas I am used to not having to drive more than 15 minutes to get to new restaurants. You should try Deep Deuce Grill in OKC. It does not fall exactly into your favorite categories of food but they had a great enchilada dip that is to die for. Good luck with your senior year!

  21. Hi Stephanie - congrats on your senior year! I am a senior from Tulsa as well so it seems like we have something in common! I love that you are so into food - I'm the opposite. I mean don't get me wrong I eat a ton, but I can be super picky about the type of food. I love your sweet dog - I make my parents send me pictures of mine too! Best of luck with your senior year!

  22. Hey there!
As a fellow chemical engineer, I know this part of the year can be pretty challenging so I hope you are doing well and things aren't getting TOO crazy! My biggest advice is to just keep using your time wisely and start studying even more in advance than you usually do because it makes overall stress levels go down! Keep it up!

  23. I know a lot of people from Tulsa. I'll guess that you either went to Jenks or Booker T. high school. My husband is a Chemical Engineer, and he says it is real tough, so props to you. I will bet that you are just taking this class for an upper division Western Civ. Nice dog insert, it is really cute.

  24. Hi, Stephanie! I’ve noticed with many STEM majors that the most interesting thing is that there is always something new to learn, which is something I enjoy with my major. Also Kacy is adorable, what breed is she? Food is always great, I’m adding Goro Ramen on my list of places to check out. I wish you luck on the rest of this semester and your final year.

  25. Hi Stephanie! I love food too, and I really like that you included it as one of your passions in your introduction :) I am from the North Texas, which is only about 2 hours away from OU, and I love how close home is. I can go home for the weekend on short notice and my family can also come see me at anytime. That's really important to me. I also like those Facebook cooking videos, they always inspire me to try and cook something, although my food never looks as good.

  26. Stephanie, I am not sure that I've read any of your work yet this semester! Chemical Engineering is a pretty serious degree, and it's great that you're almost done! I'm from Norman, so I understand that it's nice to have your family in driving distance. Also, I think that I went to Goro Ramen once last year. If it's the place I'm thinking of, it was really good!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hi Stephanie! First, Kacy is so adorable! That picture of her is very sweet. I think it's great that your major inspires you to keep learning! I've heard from my friends and relatives who are engineers that there really are so many different options out there and so many different things to learn about, so I'm glad you have that attitude. Also, I totally agree about the culinary joys of being so close to OKC. Good luck with these last few weeks of the semester!

Week 3 Story: The Parable of the Pups

There once was a family of purebred French bulldogs. They were very well off but they had never been challenged, and the mother and father began to worry that her pups were going to turn out spoiled and rude. The father was always out hunting for food for the family, so usually the mother was with their three pups. It had been a long time since the pups had seen their father. One day a dog who looked like their father began to walk towards their house, however, it was actually a mutt. The pups saw him in the distance and ran to greet him because they were overjoyed that their father had returned! They each brought with them a present to welcome him home with. The first pup brought his favorite toy with him, the second pup brought her favorite brush with her, and the third pup brought with him the most delicious treat that he had been saving to eat after they finished their chores. When they approached the dog that looked like their father they began to realize that this dog was not th
