Famous Last Words: Stephanie's Words on Week 2

This week I want to reflect on several aspects.

First is the reading. While I managed to finish and enjoyed the readings for this week, I managed to learn a lot from them. They also sparked my interest in my possible storybook topics, which is exciting. However, I read another article in one of my other classes this week from HBR that I found relevant to my life this week called, Managing Oneself by Peter Drucker. With the career fair coming up and senior year picking up speed, I have been really stressed out about my future. This article focused on a feedback analysis method, where you learn about what your strengths are so you can play to them. You also learn about what kind of learner you are, whether its a listener, reader, or writer, this is important for things besides just studying. Finally, it made the point about determining what your values are because when searching for a company that you want to be a part of, its important to make sure your value match, so that you can not only fit in, but grow. 

Overall, I was pleased with my writing this week, but I'm also excited to continue with it as the semester goes on. I read several people's stories that were all really well written and creative. For next week, I plan to continue researching my possible storybook topics. The main one I want to focus on this week is, the urban legends, which I am thinking of combining with a ghost story. I want to do more research on this topic because it was brought to my attention that there is something called cryptozoology, which I definitely want to broaden my knowledge of. There are a lot of things within this topic that are bringing about ideas, but I really need to narrow it down, as I do with my other topics. So, week by week I am ready to choose a final topic and begin working on it.

    I definitely agree about senior year flying by way too fast! So much I wanted to accomplish this semester is falling by the wayside. I'll also have to check out the article you mentioned! Now that we are in Week 7, I hope that you are still just as excited to do the readings! I know that from reading your most recent story that you are still producing some great stuff!

Introduction

Hey everyone, my name is Stephanie Krawczyk. I'm from Tulsa, Oklahoma and I am beginning my senior and final year here at the University of Oklahoma studying Chemical Engineering. Although there are a lot of cool things about m major, I think the coolest thing about my major is that even though I have learned so much in my time here, there is so much out there to discover and continue learning! Reading Notes: Czech Folktales Part A

This week I wanted to get ahead and dive into the European Unit. The Czech Folktales immediately stood out to me because of my ancestry in Poland. The Polish and Czech have many similarities culturally, so I wanted to see what kinds of story telling techniques and story plots the Czechs told. The first story in this part of the reading was Sleepy John. I thought that the character development in this story was really cool because initially you have John who sleeps all the time. This gets him into some unusual and difficult situations, but he manages to overcome them. By the end of the story, Sleepy John has obtained the entire kingdom. As a whole, I thought it was really cool that a character that was initially thought to have some negative characteristics turned out to be an awesome and smart character.
