Topic Research

Here are my three possible storyline options for the project. I have narrowed down my topic from last week to focus in on cryptozoology because I think I can encompass all of the ideas that I had before into one story.

1) My first idea came from back in the day, I read a series of books called The Sisters Grimm, which was a mystery/detective storyline based off of the brothers Grimm and their fairy tale adventures. I think that this plot would have a pair of modern day characters that would be on a vacation to modern Greece, but they find themselves time traveling back to ancient Greece and must solve a mystery as to why they were brought there. I'm thinking maybe they would be like related to someone in the ancient Greek times.

2) The second idea came from the series American Horror Story, because in the last season, they are reenacting this haunted house, but it turns out that it's actually very real. So, this sort of goes back to the Urban legend plan a little more, but with like a group of kids who go out on an adventure to prove that monsters like Bigfoot or the Lochness monster don't exist. However, they end up in a parallel world full of these kinds of creatures and they have to discover a way to get back to their world.

3) My last idea is inspired by the Percy Jackson series. I looked at this website about all of the Greek mythology creatures and decided it would be really cool to pick one of these creatures and give them a personality. I was thinking maybe a centaur, or another one who is half human. It would involve only this creature and their world at first, but they then discover that they are part human and must enter the human world by some circumstance to complete the task of bringing peace between the two worlds.

Introduction

Hey everyone, my name is Stephanie Krawczyk. I'm from Tulsa, Oklahoma and I am beginning my senior and final year here at the University of Oklahoma studying Chemical Engineering. Although there are a lot of cool things about m major, I think the coolest thing about my major is that even though I have learned so much in my time here, there is so much out there to discover and continue learning! I love my family and I love that Tulsa isn't too far of a drive from them. And they can make the trip up to see me too. I have a younger brother, Adam, who just moved into his freshman year at the University of Arkansas, and I am so excited to see where his life takes him in the next couple of years. Also I have one dog who is the coolest dog in the whole world (even though all dogs are amazing). Her name is Kacy and she's 10 years old. I always make my parents send me pictures of her. Here is a picture I took of her: One of my other favorite things is food. I can't think of...

Reading Notes: Czech Folktales Part A

This week I wanted to get ahead and dive into the European Unit. The Czech Folktales immediately stood out to me because of my ancestry in Poland. The Polish and Czech have many similarities culturally, so I wanted to see what kinds of story telling techniques and story plots the Czechs told. The first story in this part of the reading was Sleepy John. I thought that the character development in this story was really cool because initially you have John who sleeps all the time. This gets him into some unusual and difficult situations, but he manages to overcome them. By the end of the story, Sleepy John has obtained the entire kingdom. As a whole, I thought it was really cool that a character that was initially thought to have some negative characteristics turned out to be an awesome and smart character. Maybe he was just tired all the time from all the crazy situations he gets himself into. The next story was Silly Jura. This trend in the title names started to attract my attentio...
