Week 12 EC: Learning by HEART: Negativity to Positivity

This week I read an article in the New York Times by Jane E. Brody, Turning Negative Thinkers into Positive Thinkers. This article stood out to me because I feel like positivity is something that is a hard quality to come by these days. While I consider myself for the most part a generally positive person, I also find myself being a realist, which can be associated with negativity. Often times I don't like to get my hopes up about anything because the reality is your expectations are not always met.

One thing this article pointed out that I like was that in order to exhibit positivity, you don't always have to be positive to be healthy and happy. This is where the realism comes into play for me. Sometimes there are situations where its hard to be positive. But the main point that this article offered was that its the little things that you choose to see as positive really help you gradually, each time, live a happier lifestyle.

This article also said that well-being is a life skill and that the more you practice it, the better at it you can become. I found this to be empowering because it made me think about how you really can choose to be happy. There is no way for your life to be completely positive, but its about how you choose to respond to negatively that starts to turn your life in a more positive direction.

Introduction

Hey everyone, my name is Stephanie Krawczyk. I'm from Tulsa, Oklahoma and I am beginning my senior and final year here at the University of Oklahoma studying Chemical Engineering. Although there are a lot of cool things about m major, I think the coolest thing about my major is that even though I have learned so much in my time here, there is so much out there to discover and continue learning! I love my family and I love that Tulsa isn't too far of a drive from them. And they can make the trip up to see me too. I have a younger brother, Adam, who just moved into his freshman year at the University of Arkansas, and I am so excited to see where his life takes him in the next couple of years. Also I have one dog who is the coolest dog in the whole world (even though all dogs are amazing). Her name is Kacy and she's 10 years old. I always make my parents send me pictures of her. Here is a picture I took of her: One of my other favorite things is food. I can't think of...

Week 6 Storytelling: The Creation

Once, there was a simple world. People communicated by talking to one another, and occasionally people would even write down their thoughts onto paper and share it with others. People traveled via foot, and occasionally by animal. But, they didn't really know how big the world really was. The simple world was nice, and many people were only in contact with the people they wanted to be in contact with and they thought it was good. One girl, however, always wondered what the world was outside of her school and neighborhood. She began to experiment in her room and eventually created a prototype of a device that would allow her to talk to her neighbor without being in plane of vision. Her neighbor, was fascinated and they began to experiment together until they could get their device able to reach farther and farther distances. However, the girls parents found out, and they were angry. There wasn't a reason to talk to people that were outside of their contact area. The girl was...
